Bird Feeders

On November 29, 2010 the Green Team went out into the courtyard and made bird feeders with milk cartons. We cut a hole in the cartons and filled them with birdseed. The Green Team hopes to keep helping our feathered friends throughout the winter. We also have noticed that the turtles have seemed to dig and bury themselves in the dirt for the winter. If anyone can donate birdseed or clean empty containers the Green Team would appreciate it!

Thank YOU!

A big thank you to all of you who attened our first annual "Clean Up the Courtyards" day. I was unable to make it to the event due to a family funeral. I am so happy that you were all able to come and work in our courtyard without me. Here's a picture of Gabby cleaning in the courtyard:

Many thanks for all you do! Our next meeting of the Green Team will take place on November 29 from 3:30-4:30. We will start in Ms. Hudson's classroom and then split into different groups. At the meeting, we will need to decide on a name the turtles contest, what to plant in the gardens now, how to help our turtles survive, graph our energy data, and organize recycling stations around the school.

Turtles By Mandy Mossman

At the Courtyard Clean Up, we found 2 turtles. We don't know if 1 of them is alive. The other one is certianly alive because it was walking everywhere. The other turtle was found half burried in dirt and wasn't moving at all. We hope that they are both alive.

Also, we have found out that the turtles in the courtyard are Eastern Box Turtles. Later this year we might have a turtle naming contest for the turtles. Our next meeting is on November 29, 2010. Memorial Stadium Reef Ball Project

Hi Green Team!
Last year, the 4th grade eco-club made reef balls for the Chesapeake Bay. These reef balls were built to support the oyster population in the Chesapeake Bay. We made 4 reef balls and then went on a field trip to watch them be dropped in the Bay. Ronald Little, his family, my family, and I went two weeks ago to accept an award on the Green Team's behalf. Here are some pics of the event.
Love,
Ms. Hudson :)

First Meeting October 25th

Hi all Green Teamers!
Monday is our first meeting and I am so excited....and a little nervous, I have to admit!
There are 40 kids who are coming to the first meeting! I cannot wait to start getting into projects. Some projects I'm interested in are:
cleaning up the courtyard
composting our cafeteria waste
starting a green blog
announcements to others to conserve
energy audit of the school
more recycling

I can't wait to hear what YOU want to do!

Love,
Ms. Hudson :)
